Park Golf Course in the Snow |
Tewkesbury
Park didn't miss the snow that held the UK in it's icy grip during
the winter of 2009. The picture below taken on 5 February
is of the 18th Green with the Hotel in the background.

| Golf
in North Berwick, East Lothian, Scotland, 2006 |
| I
had the fortune to win a Caption Competition in the "Scratch
- Playing Away" magazine (a free magazine which is a great read)
for 2 nights bed & breakfast at the Macdonald Marine Hotel &
Spa together with 2 rounds of golf for me and 3 companions.
We stayed at the newly refurbished hotel, which has great pool and
spa facilities, overlooking the North Berwick Golf Course. |
| We
played at Glen Golf Club (the beautiful par 3 13th hole at Glen course
pictured on the right) and Kilspindie Golf Club. Both
are links courses overlooking the splendid Firth of Forth. |
 |
 |
The
enticing elevated 18th tee on the Glen course looks down at the bay
towards the town of North Berwick with the brand new Glen Golf Club
House in the background. There were stunning views
everywhere! |
| Putting
out on the Kilspindie course which is the 35th oldest golf club in
the world and is a little gem. We were lucky enough to see some
seals sunning themselves on the sand banks waiting for the tide to
come back in. |
 |
 |
The
18th tee nestles just in front of the Club House which is very traditional
with wooden panelling. We had a lovely snack in the
Gentlemen's Locker Room (which now includes the bar area) which was
wood panelled with brass plates naming the owners on the locker doors.
Glo and I were allowed into the room but we couldn't have
done that 2 years ago when ladies were barred! Wonderful
to visit. |

Ladies Away Weekends |
The
BusinessLadies have visited some courses on our "Business Ladies
Away Weekends" (see Away Days
page) and if you promise not to tell, we will give you a "sneaky
peaky" of some of the photos taken
on these rather "fun" weekends. Somehow we even manage to
get invited back to the venues!!
See also our Overseas page for courses
that we have visited or can personally recommend.

| The
Rolls of Monmouth |
This
is my favourite golf course in Wales and I am sure many golfers agree
with me!
Four miles west of Monmouth, on the B4233 road to Abergavenny, lies
a magnificent championship course opened in 1982 and ready to welcome
any golfer eager to test him or herself against a demanding 6,733
yards of parkland, streams and lakes.
With
many magnificent specimen trees of great age throughout the parkland,
as well as a fine arboretum near the Mansion; with deer, water fowl,
and abundant wildlife; with panoramic views of the superb surrounding
scenery, including the Black Mountains on the horizon, it may be
difficult to concentrate on one's golf.
|
| The
course is positioned within The Rolls Estate, the former home of Charles
Stewart Rolls, the early aviator and motoring enthusiast, whose flying
and ballooning exploits thrilled the nation and who, with Henry Royce,
founded the famous Rolls Royce Company. |

Mark
Cottrell, the Professional from Tewkesbury Park Golf and Country Club,
arranged a "Professional's Away Day" at the Rolls of Monmouth
on 10th March 2006. The weather was perfect and the group of approximately
30 ladies and gents from the A and B teams who played, all agreed
that it was a great day out.
Dave Torrington and Chris Lee pose on the 10th tee.

A caption submitted by Linda Marsh:
"Look as though you're enjoying yourself...I'll make it worth
your while"

"Is that your putter I can feel or are you just pleased to
see me?"
"Whose a pretty boy then?"

| Tewkesbury
Park Golf Club |
|
The
picture below was taken by a Daily Mail Reporter on 15th January
2007 - the year of the floods.
This watery vista dotted with trees and islands of mud used
to be England's green and pleasant land.
The wild storms and torrential rain which have battered the UK for
a week were too much for the Severn and Avon rivers, which burst
their banks just outside Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.
The conifers on the fairway of the second hole of Tewkesbury Park
Golf Course can clearly be seen and amazingly, the course was not
closed and motorised trolleys were allowed! Only trouble
was that members couldn't get to the course - except by boat!!

Tewkesbury
Park Golf & Country Club, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, England
has an 18 hole parkland course of 5707 yards off the reds. From
Par 3's over water, to par 5's lined with trees, it is a good test
of golf for all standards.
On top of that, we have a leisure complex where you will find a
swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, large fully equipped
gym, beauty centre, squash and tennis courts. There is plenty
to keep you occupied, but if none of that appeals, we are surrounded
by the historic town of Tewkesbury and only a short drive away from
the "chocolate box" villages of Broadway, Chipping Campden
and many others for which the Cotswold area is famous.

The
Fifth hole, a par 3, at Tewkesbury Park
This is the Fifth hole at Tewkesbury Park called "Salmon's
Leap" but we fondly know it as the Water Hole as it has a small
pond in front of the green. The hole is only 150
yds but can cause much heartache. Players can easily
miss the narrow green and can then use an alarming number of strokes
trying to get the ball to stay on without rolling down from one
side of the green to the other or into the bunkers!
|
The Ladies 10th tee, is a 176 yards Par 3, looking towards Cleeve
Hill on the horizon.
Tricky green to hit between the bunkers and Oak tree on the right
protecting the narrow entrance to the green. |
 |
 |
The
bunkers on the right and left await your approach shot on the 15th
Par 5, 412 yard hole.
A hole which lower handicap players hope to Birdie with
a good following wind! |
Visit
The Oxfordshire one of the Leaderboard
group of golf courses.
|
|
You'll
find The Oxfordshire in a beautiful setting at the foot of
the Chilterns, near the historic town of Oxford. The 8th and 17th
holes have been voted amongst the "Top 500 Best Holes in the
World!"
A tactical blend of bunkering, strategically placed lakes, wispy
rough and an "occasional stiff breeze" make this a great
test of golf in beautiful surroundings.

Ullesthorpe
Court Golf Club, Leicestershire
|
"5
Boys + 1 Girl" go on a Golfing break to Ullesthorpe Court
Golf Club, Leicestershire
18th - 20th March 2004. Excellent value, great
food and challenging golf, mainly because the 18 hole course was played
in unrelenting gale force winds!!
Patrick (the organiser) insisted on his new golf bag (not me!) being
in the picture. |
 |
 |
The
first hole (seen here looking from the tee) is a long par 5 finishing
with a tricky placed pond near to the green which swallows up your
ball. |
| The
round ends with a par 5 on an elevated green which is difficult to
hit even if your ball doesn't land in the water first. |
